The Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER has been recognised by The Sun, The Sunday Times, and driving.co.uk at the 2024 News UK Motor Awards for its cutting-edge electrified powertrain, setting it apart as the best in its class. This recognition is another milestone for the British-manufactured Qashqai, which has maintained its high profile throughout the year due to a significant update and its prominent role in an award-winning marketing campaign.
Since its debut in September 2022, Nissan has sold over 140,000 Qashqai e-POWER models, with customers praising the technology’s 'electric drive' experience.
Rob Gill, Motors Editor at The Sun, commented: “We can’t get enough of them. Qashqai is the car that started it all and now the clever e-POWER system moves the game on even further.
"It has all the advantages of an electric car without the not-so-good bits like recharging with a plug. The petrol engine charges the battery and the electric motor drives the wheels. We averaged 46 mpg over 700 miles, which is mighty impressive for a family SUV, plus it’s designed, engineered, and made in Britain.”
The standout feature of the innovative e-POWER powertrain is that the wheels are driven exclusively by an electric motor, unlike traditional hybrids. This allows the vehicle to offer the sensation of driving an EV without needing to plug in, making it an ideal solution for those who want advanced technology without fully transitioning to a 100% electric vehicle.
The car's turbocharged three-cylinder engine solely generates electricity, which is directed via an inverter to either the 140kW electric motor, the 1.8kWh battery, or both, depending on the driving conditions. Operating quietly in the background, it adjusts power delivery based on vehicle speed, ensuring a seamless driving experience.
Diana Torres, Managing Director of Nissan GB, said: “We couldn’t be more thrilled that the new Qashqai, powered by Nissan’s unique e-POWER technology, beats hybrid rivals in a highly competitive class at the News UK Motor Awards 2024. It means a huge amount to be selected for recognition by some of the UK’s most popular publications and their motoring experts.
"Nissan is proud to have created the crossover segment when it launched Qashqai in 2007. The cars on sale today are a far cry from those early models, of course, and the introduction of e-POWER technology in 2022 was a huge moment for Qashqai. It’s a car that’s incredibly important to all of us at Nissan and continues to be much-loved by our customers.”
Recently, as part of a highly acclaimed marketing campaign, a replica of a Nissan Qashqai was mounted on the chimney of the Truman Brewery in East London, earning widespread praise from industry professionals.
