Nissan, one of the most recognizable names in the automotive world, is known for its diverse style, innovative engineering, powerful engines, and exhilarating driving experience. It’s no surprise that Nissan has achieved immense success. When it comes to style and innovation, Nissan has never been afraid to push boundaries, challenging the status quo and redefining what a car can be. Their designs embrace individuality, and no car proves this more than the Nissan Cube. This quirky vehicle, often described as a "living room on wheels," was designed with high comfort, spaciousness, and a soft, smooth driving experience perfect for those who strive for an adventurous lifestyle.
Another standout in Nissan’s lineup was the original Juke (2010–2019). With its alien-like headlights and unconventional design, the Juke shattered expectations of what a compact SUV should look and perform like. While many overlooked it, its owners loved the combination of a compact yet powerful engine, ample interior space, and a fun driving experience.
Then there’s the Nissan Figaro a retro-inspired masterpiece that combined classic aesthetics with modern luxury. Launched under the tagline "Back to the Future," this charming little car gained immense popularity with there having to be a lottery for those looking to buy the car with its limited supply of 12,000 units, proving that Nissan has always been unafraid to embrace the unconventional.
Godzilla and the Brilliance of Nissan’s Engineering
Arguably Nissan’s most famous car—thanks in part to the Fast and Furious franchise—the Nissan Skyline is an icon in automotive history. The Skyline R34, nicknamed "Godzilla," earned legendary status through its dominance in racing. With its sleek design, powerful engine, and unmistakable exhaust note, it became a favourite in the Japanese car scene and beyond.
Having had the chance to drive the Nissan GT-R R35, I can confidently say it’s an experience like no other. When this beast hit the UK market, it packed a 3.8L Twin-Turbo V6, delivering an impressive 473bhp—with later models pushing close to 600bhp. It was a marvel of engineering, blending raw power with cutting-edge technology.
While these high-performance machines may not be as well-suited for UK roads today due to factors like cost, regulations, and shifting market demands, their impact on car culture is undeniable. Nissan’s supercars have left an everlasting impression on enthusiasts worldwide.
The Mid-1900s: Nissan and Datsun
No conversation about Nissan’s history is complete without mentioning Datsun. While Nissan thrived in Japan, their vehicles were sold in America under the Datsun name, which had already built a strong reputation in the market with the belief that changing it to Nissan wouldn’t have been cost effective. The transition from Datsun to Nissan happened gradually, and during this period, an iconic classic emerged known as the Nissan S30 or in the U.S. as the Datsun 240Z.
This legendary car was something to behold, offering sleek styling that could rival the look of Jaguars and Porsches. The 240Z was not only beautiful but also a joy to drive, cementing Nissan’s place in sports car history. Even today, its classic design continues to turn heads, proving that Nissan's influence spans generations.

Nissan has had a long history of success and even to this day, they are producing phenomenal cars and great driving experiences bringing their design philosophies into their latest cars and refining them for the modern era. With cars like the Qashqai, Ariya and X-Trail there is no wonder how Nissan are still making waves in the automotive industry.
