Electrifying Times for Nissan

Nissan is charging ahead with its electrified revolution, unveiling a wave of exciting new models and innovations. With two brand-new EVs set to launch in 2025—and a third following soon after—plus a major update to one of its most groundbreaking hybrid technologies, the future of Nissan has never looked brighter.

Big Moves in British Manufacturing

Workers at Nissan’s Sunderland plant—the UK’s largest car manufacturing facility—are gearing up for production of the all-new, third-generation LEAF. The first models are expected to roll off the line later this year, continuing the legacy of the pioneering EV that changed the mass-market electric vehicle landscape forever.

Alongside the LEAF, Nissan’s 6,000-strong team will also build upgraded versions of the beloved Qashqai. With enhancements to Nissan’s unique e-POWER hybrid system, the Qashqai will now deliver greater refinement, efficiency, and lower emissions. And in FY26, the next-generation Juke will hit the roads as an all-electric model for the very first time.

As if that weren’t enough, Nissan is also set to reintroduce an icon—the Micra. Designed in London, this all-new urban EV is set to arrive in 2025, blending bold style with practicality.

The Micra Returns—Now Fully Electric

Kicking off Nissan’s 2025 lineup is the highly anticipated return of the Micra. Staying true to its roots, the new Micra will combine striking design with simplicity in a compact yet confident package.

Designed by Nissan Design Europe in London, the new Micra is built on the AmpR Small platform—shared with Renault’s R5—and will be available with two battery options: 40kWh and 52kWh, offering a maximum range of over 248 miles. Production will take place at the Ampere ElectriCity plant in Douai, France, with sales beginning before the end of 2025.

A Bold New Chapter for the LEAF

The second major launch of 2025 brings the return of a name that has become synonymous with the EV revolution—the Nissan LEAF. Entering its third generation, the LEAF will sport a sleek, aerodynamic shape designed to turn heads while maximizing efficiency.

Built on Nissan’s CMF-EV platform—shared with the larger Ariya—the new LEAF is engineered for both performance and practicality. It will be produced at Nissan’s cutting-edge Sunderland plant as part of the company’s EV36Zero project, a pioneering blueprint integrating electric vehicle production, renewable energy, and battery manufacturing into one seamless ecosystem.

e-POWER Gets a Next-Level Upgrade

Nissan’s game-changing e-POWER hybrid system has been redefining hybrid performance since its launch in 2022. This year, it’s getting even better. Following the Japanese Kaizen philosophy—continuous improvement—the updated e-POWER system in the Qashqai will deliver a more refined driving experience, greater efficiency, and reduced emissions. Nearly 250,000 e-POWER-equipped vehicles have already been sold in Europe, and these enhancements will make the system even closer to the feel of a fully electric vehicle.

Juke Goes Electric in FY26

Looking beyond 2025, Nissan is also preparing to unveil the third generation of its compact crossover, the Juke. Set for release in FY26, the new Juke will be Nissan’s first fully electric version of the model, inspired by the bold design of the Hyper Punk concept, which debuted at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show.

The Future of Nissan is Electric

Leon Dorssers, Regional Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Nissan AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe & Oceania), shared his excitement about Nissan’s electrified future:

“The renewal of Nissan’s European lineup marks the realization of our bold plan to electrify our range. All our new models will stay true to Nissan’s DNA—striking design, technical innovation, and intuitive technology—qualities that will attract new buyers while keeping our loyal customers engaged.”
David Moss, Senior Vice President of Research & Development for the AMIEO region, added:

“With the return of the Micra as an EV and the evolution of the revolutionary LEAF, we’re pushing forward into an exciting new era. Our advancements in e-POWER are making hybrid technology more refined and efficient than ever—perfect for drivers who love the feel of electric but aren’t ready to plug in just yet.”
With an electrifying lineup on the horizon, Nissan is setting the stage for a future where innovation, sustainability, and driving excitement go hand in hand. Stay tuned—big things are coming.
