Student of the Year 2009

The Griffin Mill/Rhondda Cynon Taf Outstanding Student of The Year awards were once again a huge success. Over 160 people attended the glamorous black tie dinner at the luxury Mercure Hotel in Cardiff.

Representatives from the schools, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Boroiugh Council and of course Griffin Mill were present to celebrate the successes of the 17 nominees who were there with their parents and friends.

The event was again very generously supported by a number of companies, all of whom sponsored a table.

This years winner, Rhys Evans from Pontypridd will soon be starting in Cambridge University having obtained top honours in all 4 A Levels. what better way than to set off up the M4 than in a brand new Fiat Panda, fully funded and insured for his first year in university. Congratulations Rhys!

All the students not only had a great night they were also presented with a trophy, £50 worth of WH Smith vouchers and a sketch from a caricaturist.

There were also 3 regional winners Nisha Rajyaguru, Callum Davies and Rachel Morgan who were awarded £100 vouchers and a special regional winners plague.

Once again the decision to choose the ultimate winner was very difficult, MD Anthony Griffin said:

'All the students are exceptional, they have it all. It made choosing who should get the car really tough and I wish we could have given them all a car but we believe Rhys is an outstanding individual who is a great ambassador for his school and area. We're all sure he'll go onto achieve great things and we're proud to have had the pleasure of getting to know him throughout the award process.
