Student of the Year 2004

The winner of the first Griffin Mill 'Outstanding Student Award' in association with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, has been announced. Nia Down, from Tonypandy Community College, has collected the keys to a fully insured Kia Picanto, which she will keep for twelve months, courtesy of the Pontypridd-based Griffin Mill Garages Ltd. Nia, who is due to begin a law degree in Bristol, recently received four A-grade A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Religious Studies.

"It's an honour to be chosen as the winner and I would like to thank everyone at Griffin Mill, Gareth Rees from Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council and my friends and teachers at Tonypandy Community College for their support," says Nia.

The runner-up was Daryl Leeworthy from Coedylan Comprehensive. Daryl is set to begin reading History at Oriel College, Oxford, and his prize, a foldaway mountain bike, will come in handy in his new hometown.

All the 19 finalists received certificates and fifty-pound vouchers from Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
